UF announced in an X post Saturday morning the Florida Federation of College Republicans has disbanded its UF chapter.
The disbandment comes after the statewide organization found some members of the university branch violated its rules and values, including by engaging in “a recent antisemitic gesture.”
The UF group is now looking to reorganize under new student leadership, according to the post. In the meantime, the Florida Federation of College Republicans asked UF to strip the chapter of its status as a registered student organization.
UF wrote it is working on deactivating UFCR’s status and will help when the Florida Federation of College Republicans decides to reactivate it under new student leadership.
“The University of Florida has emphatically supported its Jewish community and remains committed to preventing and addressing antisemitism and other forms of discrimination and harassment that are threatening and disruptive to our students and to the teaching, research and expressive activities of the campus community,” the post said.
UF spokesperson Cynthia Roldán wrote in a text to The Alligator the university did not have anything to add other than the original social media response.
