Making his debut with Australia’s senior national team, Florida’s Alex Condon aided the Boomers to wins against Guam on Friday and the Philippines on Monday to end the first round of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

On June 2, Condon, who came off a junior campaign where he averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 assists and 3.6 assists per game with UF, was selected for Australia’s 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in Perth.

The rising senior became the third Gator to represent their nation's senior basketball team while at Florida, following Andrew Nembhard, who participated in the 2019 FIBA World Cup for Canada, and Mike Rosario, who was called up to Puerto Rico’s team for the 2012 Centrobasket tournament.

With the 6-foot-11 Condon on their side, Australia finished first in Group A, going 6-0 for 12 points. The Boomers will face Iran, Jordan and Syria in Group E for the second round of qualifiers. Australia will qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar if they finish in the top two of the six-team group. New Zealand and Philippines are in group E, but will not face Australia as they already played each other in the first round of qualifiers.

During these two games, the Florida forward, who played both in his hometown of Perth, logged 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists.

“He’s got so much upside,” Australia’s head coach Adam Caporn said. “It was great to have him in green and gold for the first time and fun that it was in Perth. Love his level of physicality and upside as a FIBA player.”

Australia vs. Guam

In Condon’s debut with the senior team, Australia blew out Guam 124-52 on Friday at the RAC Arena.

In 20:15 minutes of action, Condon recorded 7 points on 3-of-4 shooting, four rebounds and two assists. He finished the contest with a plus-35 plus/minus and was one of two players for Australia to record a block.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Tyreese Proctor led the way for Australia with 22 points, going 7 for 14 from the field, including a team-high six 3-pointers. The former Duke Blue Devil also had a team-high plus-43 plus/minus.

“I love playing FIBA basketball,” Proctor said postgame. “A lot more physical. You get after it. We play such a high-level brand of basketball, and it’s so enjoyable just playing with whoever is representing Australia, and anytime I can represent my country, imma do it.”

South East Melbourne Phoenix point guard Angus Glover followed with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, hitting five from beyond the arc. Glover had a team-high 20 efficiency.

Also making his debut with Australia’s senior team was Adelaide 36ers point guard Bryce Cotton. The 33-year-old logged 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and five assists.

Jack McVeigh (14), Mitch Creek (11) and Keanu Pinder (10) rounded out Australia's double-digit scoring efforts in their triumphant effort over Guam.

Australia vs. Philippines

With a win, Australia would secure first place in Group A, and the Boomers returned to the RAC Arena to take care of business once again.

They defeated the Philippines 92-49 on Monday, marking Australia’s sixth-straight win in this qualifying cycle and seventh against the Southeast Asian country.

Condon finished the game with 3 points on 1-of-5 shooting in 17:01 minutes of action. Despite his offensive struggles, the 2025 AP Preseason All-American recorded eight rebounds, two assists and a block. Overall, he finished with a plus-11 plus/minus.

Cotton led Australia with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a team-high five 3-pointers. He also had four assists to go along with two steals.

“It’s been a whirlwind, but it’s definitely been fun once the dust kind of settled,” Cotton said postgame.

Proctor followed with 16 points, going 5 for 15 from the field, including two 3-pointers. He also logged four rebounds and four assists. Creek had 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and seven rebounds.

Finally, power forward Josh Bannan recorded a double-double with 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting and 10 rebounds. The Pallacanestro Trieste 2004 Srl SSD ARL player also had a steal and a block, finishing the contest with a plus-26 plus/minus.

With this win, Australia finished the first round of qualifications with a perfect 6-0 record, finishing atop Group A with 12 points.

Following his time with Australia, Condon will return to Gainesville to join the Gators for summer workouts ahead of the 2026-27 season, which they will open against Miami in Tampa on Nov. 2
