Man charged with loitering, prowling

A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday night after police said he peeped through the window of a woman's apartment.

Francisco Botello, 37, of 112 Castle Drive, crouched down and peered into a woman's window at Canopy Apartments. Two of the woman's neighbors saw him and immediately called Gainesville Police. Botello was charged with loitering and prowling.

He was charged with the same crime in 2008, according to the Alachua County Clerk of Court.

Officer Christopher King was in the apartment complex when he saw Botello walking out wearing a polo shirt and baseball cap. When King confronted Botello, the suspect said he was looking for his friend John, according to an arrest report.

Botello then grabbed his cellphone, trying to show the officer that he called John five hours earlier. He later told King he was looking for

John but didn't know which apartment he lived in.

Eventually, Botello said John lived in Micanopy. When the officer told Botello he was at the Canopy Apartments in Gainesville, Botello said he got the two places mixed up. According to the report, King could not locate a phone number for John in Botello's phone.
