A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday night after police say he threatened a neighbor with a golf club.

Shawn Michael Dahlheim, 29, was arrested Sunday night at Greenwich Green Apartments off of Archer Road on charges of aggravated assault.

According to a Gainesville Police arrest report, Dahlheim was “wielding a golf club” and “swinging it wildly” while cursing. He yelled that someone had slapped his girlfriend and needed to apologize.

Raymond Edward Dailey, a neighbor, was loading up a U-Haul truck in the parking lot with his 6-year-old child, according to the report, when he heard the commotion. He walked over to Dahlheim to try to calm him down, but Dahlheim didn’t respond well to the gesture.

He pointed the golf club in Dailey’s face and said he was going to “knock his head off” if no one apologized to the girlfriend, according to the report. Dailey felt concerned for his and his family’s safety at that point, and a witness called police.

When officers arrived, Dahlheim was still holding the golf club. He was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. and booked into the Alachua County Jail. He has since been released.
