Same result, different

Friday, the Gators gymnastics team continued their winning ways, as

No. 1 Florida traveled to Baton Rouge, La., to sweep No. 24 LSU,

posting its third consecutive victory of the season. UF prevailed

196.425 to 194.000 in its the first road meet of the season.

Without the comforts of the O’Connell Center and the usual home

atmosphere of cheering fans, the team was greeted in a manner they

hadn’t experienced this season.

“It was a lot different,” sophomore Ashanée Dickerson said. “We had

the crowd booing us when we came out.”

Unshaken, Dickerson snagged her 10th career all-around title with

her performance. She posted a 9.800 on uneven parallel bars, a

9.900 on vault, a 9.950 on floor exercise and a 9.825 on balance

beam. All of her scores were the highest for both teams in each

event.

“It was amazing,” Dickerson said. “I just went out there and did

what I did every day.”

"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Times New Roman;">On

floor routine, sophomore Marissa King edged just behind Dickerson,

scoring a 9.875 for her performance, the second highest for both

teams in the event.

"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Times New Roman;">“I

had a great floor routine tonight,” King said. “Every time I do, I

just get better and better.”

All-arounder Alaina Johnson, the two-time SEC Freshman Gymnast of

the Week, returned to compete in all four events against the Tigers

after sitting out on balance beam last week due to an injured

toe.

"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Times New Roman;">In

her return to beam, she scored a 9.775.

The Gators were missing sophomore Liz Green, typically a beam

starter, in this week’s lineup due to a stress fracture.

Head Coach Rhonda Faehn said that though the team did well in some

areas such as Dickerson’s title and King’s floor routine, overall

the team didn’t reach its full potential.

"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Times New Roman;">“I

think we did decent,” Faehn said. “No where near our capabilities.

It’s going to be a great learning experience.”
