Florida’s sophomore point guard Liv McGill was named SEC Player of the Week after leading the Gators to a 3-0 start to the 2025-26 season and breaking multiple program records in the process.
She scored 64 points, collected 17 rebounds, orchestrated 19 assists and recorded 12 steals over the first two games of the season. Her performance against Chattanooga on Thursday night stood out, as she scored 38 points and dished out 10 assists, setting a new career high and program record for points in a game.
McGill became just the sixth Division I women’s basketball player since 1999-2000 to record at least 38 points and 10 assists in the same game.
Her ability to push the pace and create opportunities for teammates has been central to Florida’s early success, as the Gators’ offense has averaged more than 80 points per game through the opening stretch.
Last month, McGill was named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-SEC Second Team after an impressive first year in Gainesville. The 2024 McDonald’s All-American made an immediate impact as a freshman, becoming Florida’s leading scorer with an average of 16.5 points per game. Her debut season also set a new program record for most points scored by a freshman, finishing with 611.
Her consistency at the point has also provided stability for a young Florida roster looking to build on last season’s growth. And, her early-season play reinforces her role as one of the SEC’s emerging guards and a key piece in Florida’s effort to return to postseason contention.
Florida will look to extend its undefeated start when it hosts Samford on Thursday at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
