Singing, stepping and dancing will kick off Soulfest tonight.
This marks the 12th year of Soulfest, a competition that showcases UF student performers and groups. The competition winner will perform at Gator Growl on Nov. 4, said Soulfest director Crystal Goss.
Soulfest is one of the first UF Homecoming events each year.
Goss said the performances start at 7 p.m. in the Reitz Union Amphitheater. International food will be served, and student groups will table from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
"We're going to basically have a multicultural extravaganza," Goss said.
Soulfest started in 2000 as an event on Turlington Plaza with a $200 budget.
This year, it will be put on for $1,400 and co-sponsored by Student Government Productions and Star Distribution Inc., she said.
Soulfest's third annual blood drive ends today. The blood drive began Oct. 3 and was co-sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
The theme for this year's event is "The Untold Story of a Timeless SOUL."
