A bill allowing Innovation Academy senators to appoint a replacement senator for Fall terms was unanimously approved at Tuesday night’s UF Senate meeting.

As the end of the semester nears, senators are preparing to search for replacements for the Summer, except for Innovation Academy senators, who take classes in Spring and Summer instead of Fall and Spring. The Fall is considered an IA student’s Summer.

The IA senators must submit an eligible student’s name to the Senate President Pro-Tempore two weeks before the last Summer Senate meeting.

A resolution discouraging people from driving while intoxicated with alcohol or drugs was passed unanimously as well.

One of the authors of the bill, former Sen. Tommy Burt, said the resolution was personal for him.

“I’ve had two people very close to me pass away due to this,” he said.
