As Senate president, I want to address the deliberate lies of Students Party Sen. Carly Wilson that appeared in yesterday's letter to the editor. The actions displayed in Tuesday night's meeting were a disgrace to the Senate process and, more important, to the students of UF.

Before and during college, students are bombarded with advice from all directions by all people, some of it obvious, some intriguing but not fully clear and some brushed off like an insignificant fly. But there is one consistent piece of advice that is practiced at some point in every meaningful life. I've heard it from graduates of state schools and Ivy Leagues alike: Be open to new people and to different experiences.

The most dangerous part of the increased cost of attendance at UF is coming from fees that are carelessly foisted on the Student Body and even more carelessly spent on our behalf. There is talk that our fees should go to a renovated and expanded Reitz Union. This talk must end before it begins again.

This past summer, when many students were gone studying abroad, doing internships and relaxing at home, the Unite Party was busy pushing through corrupt, tyrannical legislation. One of the most corrupt changes it made was adding the ability to kill any bill based on its "implication," a virtually meaningless term that the minority argued gave Unite the ability to kill bills it didn't like before the Student Senate got to vote on them.

I imagine Gator Dining officials are all very excited about UF's place in the final round in this year's ranking of the most vegan-friendly colleges in the nation. If only those University of California Santa Cruz hippies would go away and let us win. Even if we lose, second place is pretty darn good, so congratulations.

Gators for Obama, a committee of the UF College Democrats, began the organization's voter registration project Wednesday. It is registering voters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Turlington Plaza as a start to an ongoing effort to ensure students are registered to vote in Alachua County for upcoming elections.
