UF’s AI vision: A policy of buzzwords

We call ourselves an AI university. The artificial intelligence page of the UF website claims we are on the brink of a fourth digital revolution. The page — singularly focused on our AI policy and research — highlights specific uses of the technology. The highlights given should be an example of how the president can reshape his communications. The information is there, he just needs to communicate it.

UF signs $4.7 million contract with global consulting firm

UF President Ben Sasse hired McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm, on a $4.7 million contract to help develop the university’s vision for the future. The firm’s name carries prestige as one of the “big three” management consulting firms, with Boston Consulting Group and Bain and Company tailing McKinsey as direct competitors.

Sasse announces new Strategic Enrollment Management Taskforce

UF President Ben Sasse announced the formation of a Strategic Enrollment Management Taskforce in a press release Tuesday. The taskforce will assess a broad set of issues related to undergraduate enrollment, including academic programs, physical learning spaces, digital delivery and residential housing, according to the release.

UF research study kills two dogs

A UF veterinary clinical trial resulted in the death of two dog subjects. UF vice president for research David Norton filed a report that revealed the details of the study. The study tested the effects of adeno-associated virus vectors on two groups of dogs with duchenne muscular dystrophy. The two groups received AAV vector injections on June 24 and Aug. 19, respectively.
