Storm surges expected to increase tenfold

Storm surges, the massive floods of water that occur when the sea rises during a storm, are expected to increase as much as 10 times in frequency in the coming decades, according to a study led by a climate scientist.

Today is an important day for all students. Elections for the City Commission and mayor of Gainesville will take place. As Gators, it is important that we voice our opinions by voting.


The Transportation Security Administration now permits passengers to bring small knives, golf clubs and novelty baseball bats on flights.

Small knives now safe to fly

Transportation Security Administration officials decided small knives and novelty baseball bats are safe to bring aboard a flight, but passengers are still asked to leave their water bottles at home.

UF struggling to plate runners

The Gators’ frustration spilled over into a scuffle in the eighth inning of Sunday’s loss. Florida first baseman Vickash Ramjit exchanged words with Kentucky’s Matt Reida after another Wildcats runner scored. Umpires separated the two as coaches ran onto the field to diffuse the situation. UF had plenty to be frustrated about.
