Poster sales down at Reitz

The poster sale at the start of each semester at the Reitz Union has has been held for more than 30 years and has become a tradition, but sales haven't been doing well so far this semester.

Female gaming icon gets long-overdue makeover

The depiction of women in video games has always been a mark of shame in the industry. Undoubtedly, the majority of video games developers are male — as is the industry’s target demographic. Thus, it’s not surprising that many virtual females are designed to look like idealized perfections of the gender at best and pubescent fantasy at worst. Take these favored femmes: Bayonetta has 4-foot long legs, Taki from “Soul Calibur” has triple-E sized breasts, and the entire female cast of “Dead or Alive” can be summed up with the phrase “jiggle physics.”

Jan. 12 marks the first  anniversary of the earthquake that tore through Haiti, an event that left thousands dead, billions of dollars in damage and a countless number of people asking why.

Correction

In a story in Tuesday’s  Alligator, Lindsey Scoates was incorrectly identified as Dante Cameron’s friend and the girlfriend of Jacob Harmer. In fact, Lindsey Buz was Cameron’s friend and is Harmer’s girlfriend.

In Tuesday’s paper, the Alligator misidentified a woman in a photo of swing dancers. Her name is Karen Pearce.
