Watkins becomes 10th 2010 commit

The Gators picked up their 10th oral commitment of the 2010 recruiting class Friday, adding to the quick start the team has already made toward building next year's class.

For the past 50 years our country has all but ignored Cuba's existence. We've placed a trade embargo on the island nation, only harming our own farmers and other exporters, and we've gone as far to place travel restrictions on the country, punishing Cuban-Americans and hindering our travel industry.

About 7,000 lose power

A fault in underground distribution lines caused power loss for about 7,000 residences and businesses in the area surrounding the intersection of East University Avenue and Waldo Road Friday, according to Gainesville Regional Utilities spokesman Dan Clark. Clark said faults on underground lines are rare because compared to above-ground lines, they are safer from storms and trees bumping into them.

Student remembered for big heart, outgoing spirit

UF student Starr Bishop was a straight-shooter who loved the outdoors. She snow skied and skydived. She even spoke out in a town meeting against a proposed parking garage that would block access to the St. Johns River, which flows through Jacksonville, her hometown. It was an argument she won.
