Coach Mary Wise could earn her 800th Gators win tonight

It’s been just under two weeks since the Florida volleyball team took the court for a meaningful game. After the cancellation of last weekend’s Active Ankle Invitational, the No. 3 Gators will return to the O’Connell Center to host a group of nonconference opponents.

Melanie Monteagudo lost her defender with a quick turn towards the goal line. She delivered a cross into the middle of Mississippi box that found Mayra Pelayo’s left foot seven yards from goal. The junior midfielder found the back of the net just five minutes into play, scoring her first goal of the season.

The preparations we made for Hurricane Irma probably saved our lives

As far as hurricanes go, Hurricane Irma was one for the history books. As the largest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, it steadily grew in power as it meandered its way over warm ocean waters. For more than a week, Irma had the undivided attention of Floridians, as well as the entire country. The week prior, Hurricane Harvey caused billions of dollars worth of destruction in Houston.

Closing UF and our decision to reopen

Why is UF open today?  Why didn’t we announce before Hurricane Irma, like Florida State University, that classes won’t resume until Monday of next week?  Why was UF planning to remain open on Friday of last week as the storm bore down?
