After 13 years of planning, 10 years of fundraising and nearly two years of construction, a museum commemorating one of the inventors of Gatorade is set to open in Gainesville this spring.

About a week ago, demolition began at the block where The Jam and other storefronts once stood between Midtown and downtown Gainesville, said Eddy Arenas, the former The Jam co-founder and co-owner. “It’s disheartening because it feels like they’re getting rid of the old part of Gainesville,” he said.
