Put your cell phones down, people

We all know the drill. You see an acquaintance from afar. You don’t really feel like talking to him, so you pull out your cellphone and feign interest in it. You keep your eyes glued to the screen so you don’t make eye contact with the person you’re avoiding. Once you’re at a safe distance, the relief sets in that you’ve dodged the proverbial bullet that is face-to-face interaction.

Google cars will change communication

If you’re a freshman at UF, you might be able to buy a self-driving car soon after you graduate. Google co-founder Sergey Brin predicted last fall that his company’s autonomous vehicles would be available to “everyday people” by 2017. The smart cars, guided by advanced software and undulating infrared lasers, have driven more than 300,000 miles without crashing. This could entail greater safety and convenience for UF students, including the ability to nap as your vehicle ushers you home from a late-night study session at Library West.

Changing your diet for summer: don’t fall prey to bad habits

The summer is the time to relax, start a job or internship or take a couple of classes. After finals, it can be hard to move back home and readjust to our typical diets. Most of us go through phases of what we eat on a daily basis, but now is the time to try something new (and not the cookie butter at Trader Joe’s). We’ve come up with three ways to adjust our diets to the summer, starting with the best: drinks.
