Gators track and field teams dominate at FSU Relays to begin outdoor season

Chantz Sawyers strolled over to teammate Grant Holloway with his head high, his hands on his hips and a smirk on his face. Holloway could only answer by hugging the freshman and raising his hands. It was an underclassmen versus upperclassmen split between the Gators’ men’s 4x400 relay teams, and Sawyers’ group, consisting of three freshmen and one sophomore, topped the two other teams of veterans.

UF starting pitcher Brady Singer picked up the win in his final home game as a Gator. The junior was drafted 18th overall by the Kansas City Royals in the MLB Draft on Monday.

At the end of the seventh inning, Arkansas starter Blaine Knight was the first to meet his teammates at the mouth of the Razorbacks’ dugout. After being removed from the game just one out away from completing seven innings of work, his defense got the job done, as it ended Florida’s one-run inning and shut the door on a potential Gators comeback.

Why I'm Marching

Michael Weissman, a UF finance freshman, graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last year. He still has friends in the school, and when the Valentine’s Day shooting started at about 2 p.m., the 18-year-old was in class.

Keenan Wayne Stickle, 25, was arrested Wednesday for sexual battery, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report. He was booked into the Alachua County Jail, where he remained as of Friday afternoon in lieu of a $50,000 bond, according to court records.
