Keyontae Johnson and Scottie Lewis
Keyontae Johnson and Scottie Lewis

Florida was well-represented on a pair of lists denoting the top players in the SEC.

Sophomore forward Keyontae Johnson was named First Team All-SEC by the league’s 14 coaches. Johnson made a massive leap from his freshman campaign to this season, increasing his averages and shooting percentages across the board.

He led the Gators with 14 points per game and was second on the team in rebounds per game at 7.1. Last season, Johnson averaged 8.1 points and 6.4 rebounds, for comparison.

Johnson was also named to the AP All-SEC Second Team, voted on by league media.

Senior forward Kerry Blackshear Jr. was Second Team All-SEC. The transfer from Virginia Tech led the team in rebounds per game with 7.5 and his 12.8 PPG average made him UF’s second-leading scorer. Blackshear Jr. was named the Preseason SEC Player of the Year, clearly falling short of living up to that high honor.

Kentucky’s Immanuel Quickley, who lit up Florida for 26 points two weeks ago in a win for the Wildcats in Kentucky, was named conference player of the year.

Freshman guard Scottie Lewis was named to the All-Freshman Team by the SEC coaches. Lewis was fifth on the team in scoring at 8.5 PPG and was part of a heralded freshman class for Florida that largely failed to live up to preseason hype and a No. 6 ranking heading into the season.
