After just a few months at Florida, freshman quarterback Jalon Jones reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Four-star QB prospect Jalon Jones arrived at UF in January.

After just 15 practices with Florida, his tenure in Gainesville is likely over.

Jones entered the NCAA transfer portal today, according to multiple reports. The reason for his transfer is unclear.

Jones played his freshman, sophomore and senior years at Henrico High School in his home town of Richmond, Virginia, and his junior year at St. Francis High School in Baltimore. During his tenure at St. Francis, Jones passed for 1,025 yards and threw 11 touchdowns and ran for 819 yards and nine touchdowns, cementing himself as one of the country’s best quarterback prospects. 247Sports had Jones as the No. 10 dual-threat QB recruit in the nation for 2018-19 and the No. 9 prospect at any position in the state of Virginia.

He received offers from Mississippi State, Alabama, Indiana and Louisville, but eventually chose UF largely due to his fandom as a child.

"It's Florida. I grew up watching Florida, watching Tim Tebow win the Heisman and going to the national championship,” Jones said in a release after signing day. “I want to be that guy for that campus, for the city, for the state, and just be that type of player. I knew the best place I could do that is Florida.”

The only action Jones saw in a Florida uniform came in the Orange and Blue Game. He was very quiet in the passing game, throwing only three passes and completing one for a five-yard gain, but he performed well on his feet: Jones had three rushing attempts for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Jones joined a crowded QB room when he enrolled at UF, joining redshirt freshman Emory Jones and redshirt junior Kyle Trask in a competition for the backup spot behind redshirt junior Feleipe Franks.

While Jones will be unable to play this season should he land with a team, he will be eligible for the 2020 season.
