Reindeer peanut butter cookies are cute holiday treat

Reindeer peanut butter cookies are cute holiday treat

Can you hear it? It's the soft, subtle hum of holiday music echoing through department stores, grocery establishments and stereo systems in general. It is officially December, but we've already been "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" since the first stampede of Black Friday. Seasonal jams make me want to shake my "Jingle Bells" all day and night. In Florida, we can't build our own "Frosty the Snowman," but we sure can shout "Let It Snow" and pretend we live in a "Winter Wonderland."

Mariah Carey got it right when she confessed, "All I Want for Christmas is You," but I crave something different than "Little Drummer Boy," Nick Cannon. "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and I need a holiday treat sweeter than kissing under the mistletoe. "Santa Baby" and I have something in common, and it sure isn't being a creep and watching small children sleep. Nope, me and the big guy both go holly jolly for cookies!

Cookies are the best holiday treat because they are so customizable to every family's traditions. Whether you prefer traditional Linzer cookies, chewy sugar cookie cut-outs or spicy gingerbread men, there is something for everyone. For your holiday cookie-baking pleasure this year, I would like to share a recipe dedicated to the Christmas hero himself — Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. These cookies are almost too cute to eat, but "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," so you better get to baking!

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1 bag M&Ms

1 package mini chocolate covered pretzels

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.

3. With an electric mixer, beat together butter and both sugars until fluffy, about 3 minutes.

4. Add eggs one at a time and beat until combined.

5.  Add vanilla and peanut butter and mix until combined.

6. Add half of flour mixture and beat until just incorporated, then repeat with remaining flour mixture.

7. Cover dough and chill in refrigerator for at least one hour. (For best results, chill overnight.)

8. Drop dough by rounded spoonfuls onto prepared sheets at least 2 inches apart.

9. Press each cookie down lightly with the palm of your hand.

10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops of the cookies have just barely begun to brown. Remove from oven and cool on baking sheets for at least 10 minutes.

11. As soon as cookies come out of the oven, place two pretzels for antlers, one red M&M for a nose and two brown M&Ms for the eyes.

12. After the cookies have cooled for a few minutes, you can use a spoon to indent a mouth
