Despite announcing his intention to resign in March, Dr. Douglas Barrett has agreed to stay on as UF's senior vice president for health affairs for one more year.

President Bernie Machen announced the news at Friday's meeting of the Board of Trustees, UF's highest governing body.

"It's very comforting to all of us at the university - especially those at the Health Science Center - that Doug will remain as senior vice president of health sciences," Machen said.

Barrett said at the board's March meeting that he would leave UF to return to clinical practice and teach pediatrics effective June 30.

Machen said a search to fill Barrett's position will start next year.

Machen also announced Provost Janie Fouke will remain at UF for another year to review all international programs.

She had previously announced her resignation at the March 14 meeting. Joe Glover, interim CLAS dean, will take her place as provost starting July 1.
