A UF alert was issued early Sunday morning after three men armed with a gun robbed a UF student near campus.

At about 12:30 a.m. on the 1600 block of West University Avenue, a UF student told police she was walking eastbound when she was approached by three black men wearing hooded sweatshirts, one of whom had a silver handgun, Gainesville Police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email. Officers did not have any more details on the suspects’ description.

The woman told police she dropped her purse, which held her cell phone and wallet, to the ground. The woman’s phone did not have a finder app and could not be located, Tobias said.

After receiving the call, officers monitored the area with police dogs, Tobias said. However, no suspects were located as of press time.

GPD is increasing patrol around the area and encourages anyone with information to contact the detective bureau at 352-393-7500.
