A UF student died Thursday morning after falling from an upper floor of Little Hall, a classroom building on campus.

No foul play is suspected, said University Police spokesman Maj. Brad Barber.

At about 10:05 a.m. Thursday, UPD received a call about the incident, Barber said.

He said two other students were in the area when the student fell.

“Two students turned around after they heard the individual, that was on the ground at that time,” Barber said. “They immediately began administering CPR.”

Emergency Medical Services arrived soon after and drove the student to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries, Barber said.

He was a student at the university, UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes said, and his mother was notified of the death.

She said more information on the student will become available today.

At about 5 p.m. Thursday, Jen Day Shaw, the associate vice president of Student Affairs and the dean of students, sent an email to students.

“It is always heart-breaking to lose a member of the Gator family,” she wrote.

In an email titled “Sad news for UF,” Day Shaw implored students to monitor their mental health and that of their fellow classmates.

She also reminded them about U Matter We Care and the Counseling and Wellness Center’s 24/7 crisis-intervention hotline.
