Early voting begins throughout the city

WHAT

Early voting for the presidential preference primaries and the Gainesville city election. Voters must have been registered since Dec. 31, 2007.

WHEN

Starting today and ending Jan. 26 (the general election is Jan. 29):

  • Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, the 19th: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, the 20th: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, the 26th: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Three locations:

  • Supervisor of Elections Office
    • 12 SE 1st Street

      Gainesville, FL 32601

  • Millhopper Branch Library
    • 3145 NW 43rd Street

      Gainesville, FL 32606

  • Tower Road Branch Library
    • 3020 SW 75th Street

      Gainesville, FL 32607

WHO

Voters will be able to choose:

  • A presidential candidate (registered Democrats or Republicans only)
  • "Yes" or "No" on a proposed property tax amendment
  • At most, two Gainesville City Commissioners (one At-Large seat will be voted upon by the entire city; two district seats will be chosen only by voters in that district)

FUN FACTS

  • Gainesville has 55,808 registered voters; 55% Democrat, 24% Republican
  • Half of Gainesville's commission seats, excluding the mayor, are up for election
  • Commissioners decide upon the city's budget and all ordinances and resolutions
