Erica and Brittany Taltos want to offer someone the date of his or her dreams. But eBay Inc. won't let them.

The 22-year-old advertising seniors, famous for inspiring the phrase "twinning" and their stint on season four of MTV's "Jersey Shore," are trying to auction a date with themselves.

They appeared on the show during the UF College of Journalism and Communications' study abroad trip to Italy in May.

The auction, which was posted on eBay Thursday and removed Saturday afternoon, offered a date with the twins at a starting bid of $1,000.

The auction was supposed to end Sunday.

The twins tried to re-post the auction on eBay under the title "Twinning Lessons," but the website removed the listing again.

Amanda Coffee, eBay spokeswoman, said the listing violated the website's personal relationships and services policy.

"This policy does not allow any listing that in any way offers or suggests sexual contact, including dating and escort services," Coffee wrote in an email.

The twins would have used the money from the auction to move to New York, one of their lifelong dreams, Brittany Taltos said.

The highest bidder, who must be at least 21, would have gotten to plan the date in a public place without worrying about a curfew, according to the description posted on the eBay page.

There were two bids when the auction was removed.

A man emailed the twins asking if he could buy the date immediately for $5,000, Brittany Taltos said, but they declined.

"We knew at the end of 10 days we would get way more than $5,000," Brittany Taltos said.

They don't listen to people's criticism regarding their decision to sell a date.

"People will always disapprove of everything we do," Brittany Taltos said.

The twins said they will try to re-post the auction again without using the word "date" on the page, she said.

Fiona Harrison, a 22-year-old public relations senior, said she thought $1,000 for a date with the twins seemed like too much.

"Who do they think they are? They're not Madonna or something," Harrison said.

"I feel like they're just milking their time for all it's worth."
