If one goes by the adage "all press is good press," then Mr. Simmons' column is correct: Sen. Barack Obama has been receiving more media coverage than Sen. John McCain since the end of the primary season.

However, the Center for Media and Public Affairs released a study this week showing that since the close of the primaries, there has been more negative commentary about Obama than McCain.

On-air opinions concerning Obama were 72 percent negative while opinions about McCain were 57 percent negative. The talking-head attacks about the Obama-press-love meme began last week while Obama was overseas meeting with the heads of other nations and addressing a crowd of more than 200,000 in Berlin.

Meanwhile, McCain was addressing a crowd of two in a grocery store and feeling "a little left out." Which is more newsworthy, a cleanup on aisle four (if you haven't seen the video of McCain's brush with applesauce, you should definitely Google it) or Obama's call for a renewed trans-Atlantic alliance in order to face the challenges of the future?
