UF wide receiver Percy Harvin, who suffered a hip pointer against Mississippi, continued to be limited in practice Wednesday.

But Coach Urban Meyer is optimistic that Harvin will be ready to play against Auburn on Saturday.

"He just ran," Meyer said. "Deep bruise in his hip, but the good news is it's not structural."

Meanwhile, Meyer said wide receiver Andre Caldwell looked "terrific" in practice Wednesday. Caldwell, who has a sprained knee, has already been ruled out for Saturday.

Caldwell's performance is likely not grounds for a status change.

"It is in my mind," Meyer said, "but not in the doctors' minds."

Wide receiver Riley Cooper is recovering from a sprained ankle and is "80 to 85" percent healthy, Meyer said.

"He's a little gimpy," Meyer said. "We should have Riley full speed Saturday."

MEYER ON MARSHALL: With former Gators linebacker Wilber Marshall to be inducted in UF's Ring of Honor on Saturday, Meyer discussed what he remembers of Marshall as a player.

"I just remember one of the biggest athletic human beings I've ever seen," Meyer said. "I've seen a lot of what the players said about him who played with him and watched him. Tremendous talent."

THOMPSON COULD PLAY: Freshman wide receiver Deonte Thompson could play Saturday for the first time this season, Meyer said.

"Deonte Thompson is really coming on," Meyer said. "I love that guy - he's a worker. He just works and works and works. You can see the player development going on right before your eyes.

"I don't want to say something that's not going to happen, but as of right now, there's a chance he's going to play."

A few weeks ago, rumors swirled that Thompson was frustrated and was considering a transfer to Miami.

Meyer claims the rumors are false, and he said he talks to Thompson on a daily basis.

"He's what you look for," Meyer said. "a very talented guy that is not a complainer. He just wants to get better."

Welcome to the discussion.
