I'm responding to Thursday's letter "No progress with Gator." Ben Cavataro is right: The Gator Party isn't perfect. Like many other organizations around campus it has made a fatal blunder: It let in human beings. People try their best and fail. They exert themselves and come up short. They do the best they can and it still isn't enough. But that's life.

So is Gator without flaws? No, of course not. But while some are busy criticizing them, they get up every morning and actually do the thing. As Theodore Roosevelt said, "It's not the critic who counts … the credit belongs to the man in the arena whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood."

Don't vote for attacks, vote for action. Don't vote for words, vote for deeds. Don't vote for the critic, vote for the man in the arena.
