For all of the records Tim Tebow broke Saturday and for the hundreds of yards he gained, one of his single-digit statistics baffled both Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer.

That number would be five, as in five rushing touchdowns.

"How many did he run in, two or three?" a comical Spurrier asked after getting out-gunned in his own backyard.

Reporters chimed in quickly with the answer like brown-nosing fifth-graders.

"He ran five?" Spurrier responded. "Oh, gee, I lost count. He rushed for five. Aw gee, I wasn't keeping up with all of them."

About 20 minutes later, Meyer gazed at his box score sheet in disbelief.

"I had no idea about the statistics," he said. "But you have a young guy have 120 yards rushing, five touchdowns. Five touchdowns rushing? Five touchdowns rushing? That's unbelievable."

After Saturday's performance, I'm convinced Tebow deserves the Heisman Trophy, a thought I held since September but now can profess openly.

In all, Tebow ran 26 times for 120 yards, five scores and one cleated photographer.

Former alligatorSports columnist and photographer Tim Casey got stepped on by Tebow during one run out of bounds, leaving a penny-sized raspberry on his white Irish thigh and breaking a piece of photo equipment I'm assuming is pretty expensive.

Tebow also went 22 of 32 through the air for 304 yards, two touchdowns and another interception that you could argue was at least partly the receiver's fault.

Tebow had more total yards (424) than South Carolina's entire offense - 384.

Wearing all white in a flashback to his high school days, Tebow set upon rewriting record books just as he did while at Ponte Vedra Nease.

He broke the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game and in a season (19), and extended his school-record scoring streak to 12 games.

He also moved atop the Southeastern Conference's list for rushing scores in a season.

He passed a couple of running backs on the way named Emmitt Smith and Herschel Walker. Perhaps you've heard of them.

He now has 42 total touchdowns on the year for a new SEC record.

That's one more than Danny Wuerffel. Perhaps you've heard of him, too.

Those are all of the pro-Tebow Heisman points.

Now, here are the cons:

*He's only a sophomore, and you know the deal with sophomores and Heismans.

*His team has three losses and likely will not be playing in a conference title game or a BCS bowl.

*He lost three of the four biggest games of the season - Auburn, LSU and Georgia - games where Heisman winners usually have statement performances.

Sure, Tebow has his faults.

But so does everybody else this year, and, last time I checked, somebody has to be given the award.

Troy Smith, Brady Quinn and Darren McFadden from 2006 would all win the Heisman this year.

We must decide amongst Tebow, Dennis Dixon - whose stats are meager compared to Tebow's - and McFadden in a down year.

Just as UF football opened the year with a bang on Jan. 8, Tebow should end it on Dec. 8 in New York with a splash of his own.
