Mid-week series with FGCU canceled

The Gators' contests with Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday nights have been canceled because of a Southeastern Conference rule, according to a GatorZone press release.

SEC teams are not allowed to play in non-league games during exam weeks.

UF athletics directory Jeremy Foley simply stated that the rule was overlooked when the teams scheduled the meetings. Foley apologized to FGCU, fans of both teams and added that UF is looking to reschedule the games in the next few weeks.

This will be the second week in a row where the Gators have nothing but a Friday-Saturday-Sunday SEC series to worry about, giving them more time to rest the bullpen and giving first baseman Brandon McArthur more time to stay off his right knee.

The Gators will play a three-game set against No. 17 South Carolina in Columbia starting Friday.

UF jumped back into the Collegiate Baseball top-25 list on Monday at the No. 22 spot. They are the last team out of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.
