Former UF basketball player and Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah entered into a plea agreement where he will be on six months probation as well as pay $150 to a charitable institution and $50 for a prosecution fee.
State Attorney's office spokesman Spencer Mann said if Noah does not violate any state or local statutes for the next six months, the charges will be dropped at that time.
"It will remain in a probationary status for the next six months," Mann said.
On Sunday morning at about 1:50 a.m. in downtown Gainesville - in an area populated by many bars and clubs - Noah was cited for an open container violation and charged with possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis. Since he was a first-time offender he was eligible for the deferred prosecution agreement, Mann said.
Then later on Sunday Noah was stopped for having a suspended silence after he was caught speeding on the UF campus. He was also not wearing a seatbelt and had a headlight out, according to court documents. Noah will have to pay $206 for the traffic violations.
