An assistant manager at a gas station was arrested Wednesday after a surveillance tape showed him cashing in stolen lottery tickets.
The tape showed Kevin Joseph Appel Jr., 23, cashing in nine scratched-off lottery tickets Oct. 3 at the Kangaroo Express at 2320 S.W. Archer Road where he works, a Gainesville Police report stated.
Appel told police he stole books of tickets, which are valued between $300 and $600, scratched off the tickets and cashed them in, the report stated.
More than 11 lottery books were stolen since July, and Appel cashed in 121 tickets for more than $3,000, GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said.
Appel was arrested on charges of grand theft, scheme to defraud and obtain property, and dealing in stolen property.
Ten additional counts of grand theft and 120 additional counts of dealing in stolen property could still be filed, the report stated.
