Officer arrests woman after 100–mph car chase

A woman with two previous warrants out for reckless driving was arrested Wednesday night after a northeast Gainesville car chase that reached 100 mph.

Gainesville Police Officer Jamie Yakubsin was stationed at the Kangaroo Express gas station at Northeast 39th Avenue and Northeast Waldo Road when he saw a car run a red light at about 7 p.m., GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said.

The car sped away, traveling east in the westbound lane of Waldo Road, and Yakubsin drove after it, a GPD police report stated.

According to the report, the car was traveling at speeds up to 100 mph and was swerving and running other cars off the road.

It turned into the Lamplighter Mobile Home Park and pulled onto a yard, causing about $200 in damage, the report stated. As Yakubsin got out of his car, the car sped away and pulled into a driveway two houses down, where a woman got out and ran inside, the report stated.

Yakubsin found the woman hiding behind a couch in the living room and a young child sitting on the floor crying, the report stated. It is not known whether the child or house belonged to her, Hallet said.

Youlandra Tranneaka Manuel, 27, was arrested on a felony charge of attempting to elude police and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, not having a valid driver's license, not having the vehicle registered and criminal mischief. Manuel also had two warrants out related to reckless driving, Hallett said.
