What do you get when you mix Fugazi with The Beach Boys?

According to Garrett Range, it's his new band, It's Elephant's.

"Our music, at times, is aggressive, and at times it's just really poppy," said Range, who is the guitarist and co-founder of the band. "We try to write a lot of music based on how everyone feels," he said. "We draw from life."

It's Elephant's will make its Gainesville debut Saturday at 9 p.m. at Common Grounds. Whiskey & Co. will be headlining, along with Towers of Hanoi and Children's Children.

The four-piece band from Atlanta has been together almost a year, and this will be its fifth out-of-town show.

"We're just starting, so we don't have those crazy tour stories," he said. "But we've kind of done all the road partying."

The band members range from ages 27 to 30, and have had "one too many headaches the next day."

It's Elephants is all about the music.

"We're not trying to make a bunch of money or sell out arenas or play with Jared Leto or anything like that," Range said. "The whole point of this band is to just do what we want to do; we just want to keep playing."

Range is no stranger to Gainesville, either, having been here several times over his seven-year stint with the now-defunct group The Letters Organize. The percussionist of It's Elephant's, Brent Jay, was also a member.

"It's impossible to overdo the good times in Gainesville," Range said.

It's Elephant's is looking forward to the show and hopes it's the first of many, he said.

"I'm a big admirer," Range said of Whiskey & Co. "I've always wanted to play with them."
