An on-campus rape that was reported Thursday apparently occurred about two years ago.

The woman, who is no longer a student, was a senior at the time of the alleged rape, University Police Department Lt. Darren Baxley said.

She was about 22 years old when it happened, he said.

She told police that an acquaintance raped her in a dark, wooded area of campus, though she is not sure exactly where on campus it was.

"We're working with her to figure out where it happened," Baxley said.

He said it wasn't clear why she's not sure of the location or why she waited so long to report the alleged rape.

"It's hard to say," Baxley said. "I think maybe she's just finally worked up the courage and wants somebody to know about it."

The suspect has not been contacted yet, he said.

"I don't think there was anything in particular she could have done to prevent it," Baxley said of the incident.
