A man was robbed at gunpoint near Norman Hall early Friday morning.

The victim, who was on foot, was approached at about 3 a.m. by a man who put a gun to his side and took a small amount of cash, according to a University Police Department press release.

The suspect headed north after the robbery, but police were unable to find him, the release said.

He is described as a black man, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall with a slim build.

He was reportedly wearing a gray pullover hooded sweatshirt with pockets in the front.

The gun is described as a dark semi-automatic handgun.

As a result of the robbery, UPD has increased patrols in the area, according to the release.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about the crime to call 352-392-1111.
