A few years back people grew tired of anything in their inbox that showed the letters “Fwd”. Sharing links and photos through e-mail works, but social bookmarking turned out to be stickier didn’t it?

Frankly speaking, bookmarks are indispensible, regardless of whether they are personal or social. Using  browser bookmarks that aren’t portable would eventually goad a person to do some extra cataloging when they want to view their bookmarks on more than one computer. On the other hand, saving bookmarks on a social networking website is overkill for those who don’t have the constant need to share information on a particular topic.

There is an alternate solution of course, I’m sure many of you e-mail links to yourselves or save them in drafts just as I do. Being a student, I tend to visit websites related to my courses periodically over a semester and I also download a lot of Powerpoint presentations. Typically, the search for content ends after the exams and hence whatever I need the most is saved on my hard disk. If I’d have to transfer files and folders to friends, I’d prefer to just attach a compressed folder to an e-mail and get things done in a jiffy.

However, social bookmarks are sometimes more productive behind the scenes, especially when we try to find websites for online streaming. What could be better than finding the right website on the very first page of the search results? How many people actually view results beyond the first page?

Last but not the least, the blog vs. website war continues in many business enterprises. I’d shake hands with both sides and sign off happily.  The Internet rules after all.
