William Tew’s Monday letter to the editor and his suggestion that socialist governments have more frequently brain-washed their citizens than capitalist governments should be called into question.
Tew should be reminded he lives in a country which, through the CIA, has actively sabotaged the economies of dozens of leftist countries around the world, surreptitiously started wars that have killed millions of people, overthrown dozens of democratically elected leaders, staged public opinion polls and planted newspaper articles mostly at the direction of the capitalist-spawned U.S. corporations that wanted to sell their products in those countries.
Indeed, the free market gives fruitful results in many industries, but tragic effects occur when unfettered profit pursuit drives all business activity.
