Will you get scared by 'Paranormal Activity 2'?

The first "Paranormal Activity" was a micro-budgeted mockumentary that was composed of handicam footage shot by a young couple, Micah and Katie, who slowly begin to suspect that they’re being haunted by a demonic presence.

The sequel to last year’s successful horror film will once again feature a home video style, “creaky house” scares and the idea of demonic possession.

But "Paranormal Activity 2" will further its predecessor’s approach as it will include security camera footage and a larger cast. This time around the victims are a family, including a baby named Hunter, who turn out are related to Katie from the first film.

Beyond those plot points, little is known about what exactly "Paranormal Activity 2" will be about. Of course, the filmmakers are hoping that the mystery surrounding the film combined with the name recognition and the promise of a few good scares are exactly the right bait to hook viewers into showing up in theaters.

"Paranormal Activity 2" looks like it will tie into the events of the first film and retain the same minimalistic scare tactics that proved effective before. And I like that it's a now family with a dog and a baby - but will the gimmick pay off a second time?  Moviegoers may be less interested in seeing the sequel now that the novelty of the first film is gone.

"Paranormal Activity 2" will hit theaters on Oct. 22. That's only a week before "Saw 3-D" opens. Horror film franchise battle anyone?
