The idea of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is ridiculous.
First, the point of the rule is to “allow” the soldiers to serve. We shouldn’t be “allowing” them to serve, we should be encouraging their dedication to this country even with all the hatred and discrimination they face here.
Second, many proponents of the rule say it keeps the heterosexual soldiers safer.
If that were true it would mean homosexual soldiers are dangerous, and that the rule actually does something to stop them from being dangerous.
Also, the law only hides the fact they are different and doesn’t stop anything from happening.
The main reason homophobia truly exists in this country is all thanks to Christianity and other religions. Although this might be just one thing to keep in mind when someone tells you “it’s in the Bible,” remember the things the Church have historically been wrong about: heliocentricity, slavery, a flat earth, etc.
Many people need to recall the First Amendment rights that guarantees a freedom of religion.
This amendment was made to create a country not built based on a religion, but rather a community of people with differing ideas and freedoms to believe whatever you want to believe.
