Man arrested for assaulting brother over wrestling cards

A dispute between two half-brothers over wrestling trading cards led to one brother getting stitches and the other being charged with a felony.

Kaven King, 24, lives with his brother and another roommate in an apartment at Gateway at Gainesville, 4000 SW 37th Blvd.

King and his brother were in the apartment’s kitchen, where the brother tried to take King’s phone from his hand. When his brother turned to leave the room, King came screaming after him with a drinking glass and smashed it over his head, a police report stated.

King left the apartment before police arrived. When police reached the apartment, they found blood and glass all over the kitchen and living room floors, according to the report.

The brother had a 1.25-inch long by 1/3-inch thick cut in his head, and though the wound wasn’t life-threatening, it did need stitches, the report stated.

Police found King in the neighboring complex, Stoneridge Apartments, shortly after. He told police he had been mad at his brother for trying to take his phone and said he’d acted defensively. However, the report noted that the injury showed the blow came from behind.

King was arrested at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday and charged with one count of felony aggravated battery.  He was taken to the Alachua County Jail, held on $15,000 bail and had not been released by press time.
