In “Teenage pregnancy not so glamorous,” Anita Babbitt argues that abstinence-only sex education is to blame for higher teen pregnancy rates.

She argues that the correlation between red and blue states and teen pregnancy rates is just as simple as that: Red states equal abstinence-only sex education equals higher teen pregnancy rates, and blue states vice versa.

Clearly Anita, in addition to many others on the left who consistently attempt to make this same argument, has failed to delve deeper and research the many other underlying factors that contribute to this phenomenon. Yes, studies show that red states equal higher teen pregnancy rates, but I promise you that if you look more closely at the neighborhoods, communities and regions where teen pregnancy rates are higher and take into account their respective demographic data — race, age, income, educational attainment, home ownership and employment status — you will find that teen pregnancy rates correlate better with the aforementioned demographics, and that they do not correlate with religion or political affiliation alone.
