Starting in August, there will be a bus route from The Hub to the apartment complex The Estates.
Chip Skinner, marketing and communications supervisor for RTS, said the area around 20th Avenue is one of the busiest areas for bus drivers in the city.
There are at least two dozen apartments in the area. Currently, two bus routes go down that street.
The problem is buses will fill up, and students will have to wait to get on campus. And exams don’t wait for anybody.
The Gainesville City Commission approved Thursday to add one route to that area, another from UF to downtown and additions to current routes.
Students pay for RTS service through the transportation and service fee, which is currently $7.33 per credit hour. Next year’s fee hasn’t been decided yet.
Skinner said the exact path of the new routes haven’t been finalized yet, but here’s a picture of a route that I think would work nicely.
Currently, there isn’t a route that goes through Hull Road, so this route looks like a good idea. Then again, those left turns could get tricky.
I’m not a civil engineer, but take a look anyway. I’m sure the actual route will be better conceived.
