Former City Commission, mayor candidate arrested

A former candidate for Gainesville mayor and City Commission was arrested Tuesday night for sexual crimes committed almost a year ago.

Oswald “Ozzy” Angulo, turned himself into Gainesville Police and admitted to the felony sexual assault charge Tuesday, according to GPD spokeswoman Tscharna Senn.

Last July, Angulo was watching a movie at the victim’s home with her and her friend.

The victim, a woman in her 20s who had never had a sexual relationship with Angulo, fell asleep before the movie was over and awoke to find Angulo performing oral sex on her.

She pushed him away, and he left immediately.

The woman told her friend, but she didn’t report the incident to police until March 7.

GPD detectives opened an investigation and, on Tuesday, issued a warrant for his arrest.

Angulo turned himself into police at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday and was taken to jail. He was released at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on $30,000 bond.

Besides his political pursuits, Angulo has been attending Santa Fe College and volunteering at the St. Francis House.
