An evening with live entertainment, a live silent auction, a Champion Paso Fino horse show, cigar rolling and fine dining are several of the activities to take place at the 2011 Noche de Gala on Saturday.
This may not sound like a typical outing here at UF, but Gainesville will experience a night fit for royalty.
Noche de Gala is an annual event held by the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation, and this year the proceeds will benefit the New Children's Hospital Project at UF&Shands.
Sebastian Ferrero Foundation Founders Horst and Luisa Ferrero's healthy 3-year-old son, Sebastian Ferrero, died at Shands Hospital in October 2007 as a result of a medication overdose followed by a series of preventable medical errors, according to the foundation's website.
After their son's death, Horst and Luisa decided to form a foundation that would honor Sebastian and help change the way hospitals and health care professionals care for children and their families. To date, the foundation has raised close to $7 million in contributions.
The event, which will be held at the Besilu Collection in Micanopy, will start at 7 p.m. and run until midnight. The theme for this year is "Enchanted," and guests are encouraged to wear formal attire.
Ticket prices are $450 per person, and there are also opportunities to volunteer or donate items for the auction.
For anyone interested in donating, volunteering or finding out more information about the foundation, visit the foundation's website.
