London Fashion Week favorite Mary Katrantzou has been conquering on and off the runway with her ready-to-wear collections and recent collaboration with Top Shop.
The designer, known for her bold glass-blown-inspired prints and unique shapes that accentuate the female form, has had her collections worn by celebrities such as Leelee Sobieski, Alexa Chung, Anna Dello Russo and Keira Knightley.
Designers are usually only known for the dresses or outfits that they make, so I'm usually interested in their lives, how they began and their sources of inspiration. With that in mind, you begin to appreciate the work and artistry behind the clothes much more.
Katrantzou is from Athens, Greece and attended the Rhode Island School of Design, but completed her bachelor's and master's at Central Saint Martins in London.
London is the place where the designer resides and works and has cited it as a major source for her designs.
"It's a constant source of energy and inspiration to live and work in London. It has a reputation for great fashion, influential museums and strong education. That all becomes part of your formation," she told the London Fashion Week.

Already early in her career, the high fashion designer is expanding her audience to the masses by collaborating with Top Shop to create a 14-piece collection that will retail around $560. Yes, it's still quite a lot to dish out, but considering that her prints are usually priced around $4,500, it's not exactly too bad.
The collection won't drop in until February, which should give time to those who truly covet the look to save up. However, this could possibly be another collection that will have people lined outside the stores and camping out, similar to the Missoni for Target craze back in September.
There's no word yet on how the upcoming collection will look, except for one dress that Style Bubble's Susie Lau photographed when she attended the press review of the collection.

Based on the photo, it appears that the Top Shop collection will look a lot like her actual four figure items, in contrast to the usual nice, yet watered down high-end items that appear in commercial retail.
As stated in previous posts, I'm all about fashion for the masses, so either way, this is great collaboration effort for Katrantzou and Top Shop.
On a side note, isn't this a chic way to rep the Gators?
