"Chronicle" was a surprisingly fresh science-fiction film that has the ability to impress audiences with its authenticity. There is a superb balance of action, emotion and humor throughout the film that makes watching both exciting and touching. It is the type of film that deserves a roaring applause as the credits roll.

Three high school students make a discovery that gives them telekinetic powers, forever altering their lives. At first, these boys use their powers for typical teenage hijinks and experiments, but as their strength grows, so does the seriousness of the effect their abilities can have.

Dane DeHaan stars as Andrew, the former misfit who deals with bullying and abuse every day. After acquiring his powers, Andrew is led down a dark path that spirals his life out of control. Dehaan was perfectly cast for the role, and his performance was flawless.

The shining star of the entire film was former "Friday Night Lights" cast member, Michael B. Jordan, as the hilarious, popular guy, Steve. His banter with the rest of the characters was genuinely hilarious and realistic. There is never a dull moment when Jordan is on screen, and he exudes likeability for his character.

Overall, this intriguing shaky-cam film looked questionable at first but was a beyond-pleasant surprise. It is definitely worth the trip to the movie theater for a fascinating, hysterical experience.
