Clean closet
Clean closet

When you lack a natural ability to maintain things polished and ordered it can be disastrous for your closet. Not everyone can have a closet like the fashion gurus of The Coveteur, but sometimes people blatantly forget the obvious ways to clean up after themselves. Although it might be easier to let your closet become cluttered, the key to a more stylish wardrobe, or simply getting dressed faster, is to create an accessible closet and maintain it regularly.

1. Folding

Have you ever woken up at 8:15 a.m., with five minutes to dress before your 8:30 a.m. class, and found that the pink sweater that makes you look fresh has gone missing? Folding similar items and placing them in one pile is the easiest way to find them when you’re in a hurry. Take the time to fold tops and bottoms, and place them in drawers. Tip for students in dorms: Drawer kits are an excellent way to make the most out of the small space you get with a dorm room closet. They also keep all items visible.

2. A shoe is a friend till the end

Shoes can last you five years or five months, and their lifespan partly depends on how you treat them. Placing your shoes in little shelves or cubicles will prevent them from crushing each other in the back of your closet. It also keeps the dirt from spreading and makes it easier to grab and go. Big shelves might be a little difficult to fit in dorm rooms but hanging closet organizers get the job done just as well. If you don’t want to spend, label your shoeboxes and keep them in a neat stack toward the side of your closet.

3. Bags on bags on bags

There is a saying that placing a purse on the floor will bring you bad fortune. Obviously, this isn’t an advantageous situation for college kids. Prevent the loss of wealth by hanging your bags on the back of your door. They won’t cause any disturbance here, and they will never fall. This also makes them incredibly accessible. Bags, purses and backpacks are very similar to shoes. If they are treated well, they will last longer.

4. Let it all hang out

There have been more than a few times when I have walked into someone’s room and all of their clothes are lying in a pile, when their closet has more than enough hangers to go around. People, hang your clothes. It prevents them from getting wrinkled, it helps keep weird smells out and when you’re in a rush all you have to do is skim through the top of the hangers instead of diving into a sea of shirts.

5. Arrange your accessories

A messy accessories section can become a pain when looking for the perfect piece to accentuate your outfit. Sometimes you can’t find your other earing, or your necklaces are all coiled up together. Avoid this by neatly arranging accessories by type. Hang your necklaces so they don’t coil. Pin up earrings to keep pairs together. Rack up your sunglasses to prevent them from getting scratched or breaking. And if you really want to go wild, a jewelry box will keep everything in one place.

Take time to organize and arrange your closet according to the situations in your room. Don’t let a messy closet prevent you from forgetting or losing gorgeous pieces in your collection and from looking fabulous every day.
