Trend spotting: Spring 2013

I’m sure you’ve all figured out that the Mayans were wrong. So, I guess since we’re all stuck here a little while longer we might as well go shopping. Being that it’s a new year, there are all new trends to be followed and new accessories to fill our wardrobes with. Spring 2013 means that white is back, florals reign supreme and funky accessories are still standing strong.

Now that we’ve started over, white is allowed back into our everyday wardrobe until Labor Day. There’s something about white pants, or a white sundress that screams springtime. It’s just so light and simple, and a white foundation in a wardrobe can really leave you with room to experiment. There are so many cute items in white that can pull an outfit together. But, if you’re more on the accident prone side, you might want to stay far away from these. In that case, just stick to your bright spring colors or carry a Tide to Go pen.

One thing this is synonymous with spring are florals. After all, it is that time of the year when everything springs back to life, and the world is beautiful again (except for Florida because we don’t have traditional seasons, meh). So, in keeping with this theme, florals as well as botanical accessories are items to look out for while you’re shopping. The great thing about florals is that although they’re flowery prints they are all so different. Some can channel a more dainty look while others can be worn in an edgier outfit.

Now for the real fun. This is for all of the fashionistas who tend to lean toward those more eclectic pieces. Stacked bangles are a hot commodity this season. An arm full of circular and rectangular bangles has a great aesthetic. It’s a fun and playful way to accessorize this season. And for the show stopper -- knee-high gladiator sandals. When looking at them in a store, they might appear extremely strange. However, once you put them on, you see their true potential. This extension of the original gladiator looks great with casual dresses, or shorts. They’re definitely a statement piece so don’t go overboard with the rest of your outfit. Be warned though, these could cause ridiculous tan lines!
