Distance runners Mark Parrish and Josh Izewski turned in solid performances in the men’s 5000m at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Friday.

With a time of 14:03.07, Parrish finished just shy of his season-best total of 14:02.46, which he set at the UW Husky Classic in Seattle.

“Tonight held solid efforts for both Mark and Josh,” coach Mike Holloway said. “I’m excited to see how they perform outdoors after a very successful indoor season.”

However strong both performances were, neither runner times could crack the national top-16 in the men’s 5000m, thus deeming them ineligible for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tomorrow, the Gators have five athletes competing in individual events.

Freshmen sprinters Najee Glass and Arman Hall are each competing in the men’s 400m. Hall is currently has the 19th best time nationally in the men’s 400m.

Lanie Whittaker is also sprinting for Florida in the woman’s 400m. Lanie is currently 21st in the nation in the women’s 400m.

In the distance events, juniors Sean Obinwa and Agata Strausa are looking to improve their times in their respective events.

Strausa, competing in the women’s mile, currently has the 21st time in the nation.

Obinwa, competing in the men’s 800m, is currently 12th in the nation in the event. Although he is in position to qualify for the NCAA meet, he is only .52 seconds from 17th place.

With the exception of Obinwa, the above runners are fighting to get into the top-16 times in their respective events. A national top-16 time ensures a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships for the athletes.
